Rashtriya Janata Dal has accused Bharatiya Janata Party of violating the Model Code of Conduct. RJD has demanded strict action from the Election Commission on this matter. In this regard, Rashtriya Janata Dal spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan has given a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner, in which he has alleged that in the editions of newspapers published in the eight Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar where voting is taking place today, Bharatiya Janata Party has published BJP advertisement with the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this advertisement, voters have been appealed to vote by pressing the button on the election symbol of BJP.

Publishing advertisements in newspapers is a violation of the code of conduct

RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan says that publishing any kind of advertisement in newspapers published in the respective constituencies within 48 hours of voting is a blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct. He said that earlier on May 13, 2024, on the day of the fourth phase of voting, a complaint to the same effect was made to the Election Commission. The Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar had also assured that a report is being sought in this regard from the concerned District Magistrate and action will be taken accordingly.

Question raised on Election Commission

RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan alleged that by publishing advertisements in newspapers even on the day of sixth phase of polling, BJP has proved that the Model Code of Conduct has no meaning for BJP. The silence of the Election Commission on this issue is raising questions on its impartiality. The Election Commission, which registers FIRs and issues notices even in small cases of the opposition, remains silent in the case of BJP.
